An endometrial cyst or chocolate cyst is a common complication of endometriosis.It is caused when endometrial tissue that normally lines the uterus breaks off and invades an ovary.This transplanted tissue is stimulated to grow and bleed with each menstrual cycle. Over time the blood accumulates inside the ovary, gets old and turns brown (thus the name chocolate cyst).
